Clean Water Project

Access to safe, clean water is a basic human right, recognised by the UN in 2010; however it is still not always achieved.

Our sustainable projects provide this fundamental right to thousands of people in some of the poorest remote areas.

The main focus of our efforts is to provide the funding, support and resources to supply clean and safe drinking water to the poorest and most in need.

Sumillion Ltd provided the resources for communities to gain access to safe clean drinking water in the following areas Akim Kotoko Abodom –Easten region, Banso on Lake Bosomtwe, Manpong, Bayiri Bong, Effdiase Dadiore

Currently these villages source their water from areas which they know are polluted and can cause significant health issues. Often difficult to access and shared with livestock, communities have no other choice than to use water they know is contaminated as they lack the funds to invest in improvements.

Our Mission

This project seeks to provide 4 rural communities with potable drinking water in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality.

The problem
Rural communities in Ghana have problem with access to clean drinking water. Although this is improving with 36.34% having access to clean water in 2016 and 41.41 in 2019 this still needs desperate improvement in the rural villages. Water born disease still accounts for two of the five leading causes of death in Ghana, malaria and diarrheal diseases with diarrhea still the leading cause of death in under fives. Water born disease significantly undermines the quality of life, economic prosperity and human progress. With many young children spending most of the day water collecting education is missed with direct supply they can attend education which has long term positive consequences in their lives boosting individual family’s economic growth reducing poverty and contributing to the country’s economic growth. In rural areas 76% of households are at risk of drinking water contaminated with fecal matter which affect the daily activities of women, children and the aged in this communities. Discussions with the community development office and the planning department of the atwima nwabiagya municipal assembly highlighted the Nkonteng, Apuayem, Akwaboa and Akyena regions as the communities that urgently need potable water. These communities drink from streams which are polluted by the activities of herdsmen in the community. As a result of this these communities recorded the highest percentage of 72% of the community with waterborne diseases like typhoid, malaria and Diarrheal diseases.

The solution
1. Provide access to clean and reliable water for the people of Nkonteng, Akwaboa, Akyena and Apuayem communities
2. Educate 4 communities on the dangers of using contaminated water
3. Mechanize the 4 boreholes to ensure accountability and sustainability

What we expect to achieve
1. Reduce waterborne diseases in the communities to prevent long term health problems and death.
2. Enlightened communities on the dangers of using contaminated water and establish knowledge and good practices of good hygiene passing to future generations.
3. Improved access to potable water in these communities allowing children to attend school which will reduce poverty and starvation in the community and allow long term positive change to families and future families.
4. To improve the economic status of families through children’s education, hiring of local community to administer the program leading to growth in the country’s economy.
